本日ご紹介するのは
1967 Gibson ES-330 (Cherry)です。

 

しっかりと使い込まれ鳴りの良い一本。

ペグがシャーラーに交換されリフレットも施された上でそれなりに減っているのでオリジナル度こそ高くはないものの、演奏性、そして何より出音に関しては文句なしです。

 

チェリーフィニッシュのフェイド具合と全体に入ったウェザーチェックがヴィンテージの風格を感じますね。

 

搭載されている2基のP-90はさほど出力が高くない印象で、新しいP-90に比べ空気感がありつつもP-90らしい太さはしっかり残ったなかなかナイスな音です。

 

リアは中域に膨らみがありアンプ側で高音域をさほど上げなくてもしっかりヌケてくれるし、フロントは甘くて温かくもモコモコしないバランスの良いトーンです。

 

ぼくが個人的に気に入ったのはミドルポジション。

普段ミドルを使うことはあまりないのですが、この330のミドルは楽しかったです。

 

ミドルポジション特有のやや鼻にかかったようなアタックがコロコロと転がるような音で気持ちいいのですが、その上にサステインが倍音豊かで太さがちゃんと残ってくれているので、ロングトーンがしっかり鳴ってくれます。

 

なかなか楽しい一本！

My pick for today is…

1967 Gibson ES-330 (Cherry)

 

Here’s a well-loved axe built 50 years ago.

The tuners have been replaced with Schallers and has been refretted.

The frets are about 70% remaining, so this thing has definitely seen a lot of use over the years and sounds and plays great.

 

The faded cherry finish and overall checking gives the guitar tons of vintage vibe.

 

The P-90s are not very hot compared to newer P-90s and has a great airiness to the tone without taking away the fatness P-90s are known for.

 

The rear pickup has a good blooming mid-range that will cut through without adding too much treble on the amp, and the front pickup has a sweet warm tone without any muddiness.

 

What I loved most was the middle position.

I don’t usually use this position much, but this 330 sounded really good here.

It’s got the slightly nasally attack which is the usual deal with this position, and the notes “roll around” joyously.

Though some guitars in this position tend to sound thin, this one has a good amount of juice in the sustain and just feels great.
