本日ご紹介するのはまだホームページに上げたばかりの一本。
1999 PRS Custom22 Soapbar 3PU 10Top NAMM Modelです。

 

大は小を兼ねるとは良く言ったもので、ソープバー仕様のPRSはまさにこの通り。

 

３基のソープバーと5wayのスウィッチングにより幅広い音色が選択可能です。

しかも、全ポジションがちゃんと使える音だし、ぼくはむしろハーフトーンの方が好きなくらいでした。

 

ソープバー仕様のPRSのおいしいところはだいたい揃ってます。

全ピックアップの音はとてもバランスが良く、キンキンした高音域もモコモコした低音域もありません。

また、倍音豊で伸びやかなサステインも相まって、「さすがはPRS」の一言。

ギブソンのP-90はどちらかというとガッツがありバイト感が強い印象ですが、PRSはもう少し滑らかですが、P-90らしい線の太さはもちろん健在です。

 

この楽器の特徴はなんといってもメイプルネックとハーフトーン。

 

ぼくは元々メイプル指板は音の立ち上がりが早すぎてあまり好みではないのですが、逆にこの立ち上がりの良さがハーフトーンで鳴らしたときに心地の良いアタックを生み、そこからサステインが綺麗に伸びていってくれます。

 

グレートフル・デッド辺りのジャムバンドが好きな方であれば思わずニヤついてしまう音だと思います。

This one we just put up on our website.

 

3 is often better than 2, and this can be said for Soapbars on a PRS.

 

3 Soapbars and 5 positions to choose from gives this guitar a broad tonal possibility.

All positions are actually usable, and as a matter of fact, I really liked the half positions.

 

There is pretty much everything you can expect from a Soapbar-loaded PRS.

All pickups have a balanced tone with no harsh treble or muddy low-end.

The notes sustain beautifully with rich harmonics.

Unlike Gibson P-90s that have growling bite, PRSs are smooth, but still has that fat P-90 tone.

 

Now the cool part about this guitar is the half positions and the maple neck.

 

I’m not a very big fan of maple fingerboards since the attack comes out too “fast”, but play this thing on the half positions (neck/middle, middle/bridge) and the fast attack creates a good quack, followed by the ever-ringing sustain.

This tone would surely put a grin on your face if you’re a jam band fan, especially from the Grateful Dead clan.
