本日ご紹介するのは

2000 Fender Custom Shop ’51 Nocaster Relic (Butterscotch Blonde)です。

 

今回ははっきり言ってしまいます。

現在当店にあるテレキャスター/ノーキャスターの中でこの一本が一番のお気に入りです。

 

ノーキャスターの極太ネックが苦手という方も中にはいらっしゃるかと思います。

ところがどっこい。これも極太です（なんやねん）。

 

カスタムショップ製ノーキャスター、しかもレリックものの中でも比較的お手頃なお値段であることにお気づきかもしれません。

もちろん理由はちゃんとあります。

 

まず、こちら認定書が欠品しております。

それからいくつか交換点があります。

ピックアップはLindy Fralin製”Broadcaster”に替えられており、配線材やコンデンサーなんかも替わってます。

 

もちろん、改造を施すときは”アップグレード”だと思ってやるのが普通だと思います。

ただ値段に影響するのは改造の良し悪しではなく楽器のオリジナル度です。

ひっくり返すと、”アップグレード”されている楽器の方がお安い場合があるということです。

 

このノーキャスターもその一本だとぼくは感じます。

 

これ、すごく気に入ってしまいまして。

レリックの感じとか、アメ色に灼けたネックの感じとか。

 

ぼくはネックシェイプにあまりこだわりがある方ではないのですが、この太いネックの弾き心地は好きでした（ちなみにメインで使っている楽器はSGです)。

 

何よりも気に入ったのは出音です。

リアは歯切れのいい立ち上がりと50sのテレらしいトゥワングがありながら耳にくるようなトレブルはない。

個人的にテレ弾きで大好きなのはジム・ウィダー（現在はThe Weightというバンドで弾いていたり、ロビー・ロバートソンが抜けた後のThe Bandでも弾いていた方)なのですが、このノーキャスターを弾いていると彼の音を思い出します。あんな風に弾ける訳じゃないけどね。

 

フロントはリアに比べ少々大人しいですが、これはテレにおいては珍しいことでなありません。

音はやや甘めで温かく、音量は小さくても倍音は豊かです。

 

こんな素敵な音がする両ピックアップですが、これ組み合わせたらどうなるでしょう？

なんと更に良くなります。

 

コロコロ転がっていくようなカントリー・リックが気持ちよく、なかなかこの音を形容する言葉を見つけるのが難しいのですが、一つ言えるのはリードでもバッキングでも歌ってくれる音です。

この音を聞いて思い出すは最近注目の若手プレイヤーであるダニエル・ドナトです。才能溢れる良いプレイを聞かせてくれるのでご存じない方はぜひチェックしてみて下さいね。

My pick for today is…

2000 Fender Custom Shop ’51 Nocaster Relic (Butterscotch Blonde).

 

I’m going to say loud and clear.

This is my favorite Telecaster/Nocaster in the shop right now.

 

Some of you may not like the huge neck of Nocasters.

Well, surprise! This one is huge as well.

 

If you look on our website, you may notice this one is pretty cheap for a Custom Shop Nocaster, let alone a Relic.

 

There are a few reasons.

First of all, the Certificate of Authenticity is missing.

Secondly, there are a few replaced parts.

The pickups have been changed to Lindy Fralin “Broadcaster”, and the wiring and tone caps are not original as well.

 

Even if you think you may have “upgraded” certain parts, the price is basically set based on the originality and condition, which means you may be able to acquire an “upgraded” guitar for a cheaper price.

 

Like this one.

 

I love this thing.

The relic job on this is pretty nice with the darkened color on the neck and body and the beat up look.

 

I’m not very picky about neck shapes, and this big fat Nocaster neck feels pretty comfortable (my main axe is a Gibson SG by the way).

 

What just got me is the tone.

Yeah, the pickups aren’t original. They’re Lindy Fralins. I love them.

 

The bridge position has that spank and twang that 50’s Teles are known for, but the treble isn’t harsh.

One of my favorite Tele players is Jim Weider who currently plays with The Weight and a former guitarist of The Band after Robbie Robertson left.

It’s that good ole rock ‘n’ roll tone that puts a smile on your face.

 

The neck position is slightly quieter which is nothing unusual for Teles, and the tone itself is rather sweet.

The flourishing harmonics and warmth on this particular Nocaster really got me.

 

So I’m really digging the tone on both pickups, but what happens when you put it in the middle position and combine the two?

 

It’s even better.

 

Those country licks have a lot to say in this position.

I find it very difficult to describe this tone, but one thing I can tell you is that whether you’re playing lead or rhythm, this thing sings.

Daniel Donato is the player I’ve got in mind. This man is pure talent so suggest you check him out.
