本日ご紹介するのは

2001年製 Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt ’54 Stratocaster Closet Classic by Todd Krause (Sunburst)です。

 

いい雰囲気の一本ですよ、これ。

クローゼットクラシック仕上げによるウェザーチェックの感じとか、角が少し丸いプラスチックパーツとか、良い意味での古さを感じます。

 

1ピースアッシュボディのバックの木目なんかも見事。

この辺りはさすがマスタービルト、さすがトッド・クラウス。

 

ネックはもちろん1ピースメイプルで適度に頂点を感じるVシェイプです。

60’sモデルに比べ少し厚みがある分、6弦なんかはバチーンとしたアタックとゴーンと鳴る低音が気持ちいいです。

 

ピックアップにある程度の出力がある分全体的にローミッドにパワーを感じる出音ですが、高音域にもいい具合の煌びやかさがあり、王道の50’sストラトに欲しいのはやっぱりこういう音！というような印象です。

 

7.25″ラディアスの指板に細く背の低いビンテージタイプのフレットが打たれているのもポイントで、これだからこそ得られるアタックやサステインのニュアンスがあります。

いわゆる枯れた味のある音ってやつです。

 

こういう渋みを感じさせてくれるギター、なかなかないんですよね。

2001 Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt ’54 Stratocaster Closet Classic by Todd Krause (Sunburst)

 

Talk about vibes.

The Closet Classic finish looks great with checkings all over, and the pickup covers and control knobs have slightly rounded out corners really add on to the vintage 50’s vibe.

 

The grain on this 1-piece ash body is worth noting, and all praise is due to Masterbuilder Todd Krause.

 

The neck is made from 1-piece maple which is period-correct, and the vertex of the “V” shaped profile feels smooth in the hands.

These 50’s style maple necks tend to have a little more thickness compared to 60’s necks, and this one is no exception.

Thanks to this chunk of maple, there’s a solid low-end fatness when you hit the low E string. I love this.

 

The pickups have good amount of output and it’s got a powerful low-midrange as well as some sparkle in the treble frequencies, and I would say this is what a good 50’s Strat sounds like.

 

It’s got the vintage-style 7.25″ radius and short, narrow frets which give this guitar that old-school mojo.

 

There aren’t many guitars out there that actually have this kind of tone.
