本日ご紹介するのは
2007 Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt ’64 Stratocaster Relic by John Cruz (Candy Apple Red/MH)です。

 

ジョン・クルーズ氏製作のストラトがまた一本入荷しました。

いや〜本当にいい仕事しますね。（何様）

 

この’64スタイルのストラトも例外ではありません。

レリック具合といい、キャンディ・アップル・レッドのマッチング・ヘッドストックといい、感服の一言に尽きます。

 

このネックもまた個人的にすごく好きでした。

ジョン・クルーズの60’sスタイルのストラトにしては決して太い訳ではないのですが、どこか丸みを帯びていて馴染みが良かったです。

ネックに関しては人それぞれの好みがあるし、ぼく自身はあまりネックの形状に関してこだわりが強い方ではないのですが、これは持った瞬間に「お、なんかいいな。」と感じました。

 

ピックアップにはそこそこのパワー感が感じられ、高音域から低音域までまんべんなく出てくれる印象でした。

また中域成分も多分に含んでおり、この中域が上と下をくっつけてくれるためとても倍音が豊か。

バシッと鳴ってくれるストラトを探されている方がたくさんいるかと思いますが、この一本は期待を裏切らないと思います。

 

ジョン・クルーズ製作の楽器を弾いていつも驚かされるのはアタックの後に膨らんでいくサステインです。

強いタッチで弾いても「ペチッ」とアタックだけで音が消えてしまう訳でなく、その後からサステインがしっかり持ちこたえてくれます。

 

フロント、ミドル、リアポジション共に芯のある線の太い音が出てくれるし、ハーフポジションでも薄っぺらくなることはありません。このポジションに求める綺麗さといえばまさにこの音ではないでしょうか。

My pick for today is…
2007 Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt ’64 Stratocaster Relic by John Cruz (Candy Apple Red/MH).

 

It’s been a little while since we had a John Cruz Strat come in, and geez, he never lets you down.

 

This ’64-style Strat is on point with the great relic job and matching color headstock.

 

The neck felt really good in my hands.

Though not exactly fat, the shape is rounder than typical Strat models from this era, and though I am not very picky about neck shapes (I’ll live with it as long as the instrument is sounding nice), the moment I held this one in my hands I knew I’m liking it.

 

The pickups really speak out with good output from treble to bass frequencies, and the low-midrange harmonics glues everything together.

Since there is also a good amount of sparkle and overtone in the treble frequencies, you get a nice spank and grit that a lot of Strat players look for.

 

What always amazes me when I get my hands on a well-built John Cruz Strat is how the sustain blooms after the attack.

Even if you play with a strong touch and dig in hard on the strings, the notes “spring back” and chases after you.

 

The neck, middle and bridge positions alone are all strong and bold, and the out-of-phase positions are never thin either.

 

Sure enough, the next person that gets to own this one is going to be smiling for the rest of his/her life.
