本日ご紹介するのは

2011 Martin 000-42ECJM (Natural)です。

 

2011年に行ったエリック・クラプトンとスティーヴ・ウィンウッドによるジャパン・ツアー時、マーチンとクロサワ楽器店さんがメインスポンサーとなったことを記念して限定で発表したのがこちらのギター。

 

ぼくは個人的にこの一本に出会えて嬉しいのです。

2011年、ぼくは武道館にてこの時のライヴを観ておりました（そんな人はいくらでもいるとは思いますが）。

 

あの時のスティーヴ・ウィンウッドによる”Georgia On My Mind”やセットの締めくくりで演奏された”Voodoo Chile”(“Slight Return”じゃない方)のクラプトンのキレッキレのギターソロに震えたのを今でも覚えています。スティーヴ・ガッドとウィリー・ウィークスというチートといっても過言ではない組み合わせの鉄壁リズムセクションも素晴らしかった…

ついつい思い出してしまいました。

 

話を戻しますが、そんなスペシャルなこのギターには言葉ではなかなか表せないような高貴な空気感が漂っています。

ケースを開け、楽器を覆うカバーをめくった瞬間に思わず息を飲んでしまうような、吸い込まれるようなオーラを感じます。

このモデルやこれにまつわる逸話を知らなかったとしてもただのギターではなく、特別なんだろうなと感じさせる何かがあります。特別です。

 

その上、トップにアディロンダック・スプルース、サイドとバックにマダガスカル・ローズウッドと豪華な材を使用していて、この企画に対する気合いが感じられます。

 

まだまだ若いためもう少し弾き込んであげる必要があるかとは思いますが、5年、10年と経ったときにどんな音が鳴ってくれるのかと想像しただけでワクワクしちゃいます。

My pick for today is…
2011 Martin 000-42ECJM (Natural).

 

When Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood set out to play a Japan Tour in 2011, Martin and Kurosawa (one of the largest instrument retail stores in Japan), became the main sponsors for the tour, and they celebrated the occasion with the release of this guitar.

 

I’m personally happy to come across this model because I was at one of the shows on that tour, and I still remember Steve Winwood’s beautiful rendition of the Ray Charles classic “Georgia On My Mind” and “Slowhand” totally slaying it on Jimi Hendrix’s “Voodoo Chile” (not the “Slight Return” which made it even cooler” for the set finale. Not to mention the killer rhythm section of Steve Gadd and Willie Weeks. Oh the memories.

 

There’s a certain elegance to this guitar that is very difficult to describe in words.

The moment you open the case and take off the covering, there is something about its aura that is simply breathtaking.

Even if you weren’t aware of this model and the story behind it, you can somehow tell that it’s something else. It’s special.

 

Here’s another reason this thing is special.

Solid Adirondack spruce for the top and Madagascar rosewood for the side and back. They don’t hand out much of these stuff.

They obviously put in a lot of passion for this model.

 

Since this guitar is not very old, it does need a lot more breaking in for you to pull out all the magic that dwells in it, but 5 or 10 years from now, God knows how good this one is going to sound. I’m already drooling at the thought of it.
