本日ご紹介するのは
2012 Gibson Custom Shop Historic 1957 Les Paul Aged Dark Back (Gold)
認めます。
ぼくはゴールドトップに目がなく、やはり57年製レスポールはまさに夢のギターです。
この一本のゴールドはかなり黄色がかっていて、ぼくが今までにお目通り叶ったことのある57年に結構近い。
その上、ヘッドストックの”Gibson”ロゴの位置も通常のレスポールよりやや下に付いている点もしっかり再現されています。
しかもダークバック！このトップとのコントラスト、ぼくは渋くて好きなんです。
この一本、完全にぼく好みな点がほかにもあります。
- ペグがグローバー製のものに交換されている点 (check!)
- 4.26kgという重さ (check!)
グローバーペグは質量が大きい分、倍音が締まります。あと単純にあの重い感触がしっくりくる。
それから重量。
4kgを切るような比較的軽量なレスポールは、やはり軽い分生鳴りが大きいです。そして、レスポールの鳴り方はより中域がふくよかになり、低出力のピックアップであればクリーンで弾くとちょっとジャジーな響きになります。
歪ませても、そのオープンな中域のおかげで、マーシャルなんかに繋いでコードをバーンと一発弾いたときの気持ち良さがあります。
実際はこの音を好む方の方が多いと思いますし、もちろんどちらの方がいいということではなく、完全に好みの問題です。
ぼくはもう少し重くて、身が詰まったようなタイトでややアグレッシブな音をレスポールには求めてしまいます。だから4.26kgという重さのこのギターをブラックフェイスのプリンストン・リバーブなんかに繋いでぶっ放したら最高だろうな〜と。
もう一度いいますが、これは好みの話です。
ぼくは毎日この一本の前でよだれを垂らしています。

2012 Gibson Custom Shop Historic 1957 Les Paul Aged Dark Back (Gold)
I’ve got to confess.
Gold Top is my favorite Les Paul finish, and a ’57 LP is one of my dream guitars.
The gold on this one has that yellowish tone close to the real ’57s that I have had the chance to see, and the logo on the headstock is at the right position, lower than other Les Pauls many of you may be familiar with.
AND this one’s a darkback. How cool is that?
To me, this one is just right.
The tuners have been changed to Grovers, and I happen to prefer Grovers.
The weight is about standard for a Les Paul, weighing 9.39lbs.
Lighter Les Pauls have a more open, rich mid-range, and I know many dig that tone.
I personally look for a tighter, bit more aggressive tone in a Les Paul, and plug it into a cranked blackface Princeton Reverb and I will be in heaven.
Man, I’m drooling over this one everyday.
