本日ご紹介するのは

2013年製 Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt ’64 Stratocaster Heavy Relic by Jason Smith (Candy Apple Red)です。

 

ここ最近当店のホームページをご覧頂いた方であれば、一度はこのストラトに目が留まった方も多いはず。

マスタービルダー、ジェイソン・スミス氏によるこのレリック・ワーク、なかなか見事ですよね。

しかも’64モデルということはヘッドのロゴがトランジション・タイプ。個人的に好きなやつです。

 

ネックがかなりしっかりしている印象で、弦振動をガチッと支えてくれます。

太さは59年や60年代初頭のものに比べ若干厚みがあるかな〜くらいですが、木自体が硬いような感触があります。

これによって低音がゴーンと出てくれて気持ちがいいんです。

 

どのポジションで弾いても出音に太さがあり、ハーフトーンも痩せる訳でなく、ローミッドの倍音が豊かです。

ピックアップはアビゲイル・イバラ女史によるハンドワウンドで出力は控えめ。

これにより高温域の美しいオーバートーンと空気感が出てくれて、ボディ・ネック・ピックアップのすべてのバランスの良さを感じます。

 

ジェイソン・スミス先生に脱帽です。これはいいストラトだな…

2013 Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt ’64 Stratocaster Heavy Relic by Jason Smith (Candy Apple Red)

 

If you flipped through our website recently, I’m pretty sure this Strat caught your eye.

This relic job by Masterbuilder Jason Smith is pretty darn cool right?

Plus it’s a ’64 meaning it’s got the “Transition” logo which I personally like.

 

It’s got a nice hard neck that supports the string vibration well.

Not exactly big in size, maybe just a little bit thicker than ’59 or early 60’s necks.

This results in a tight solid low-end that sounds awesome.

 

Every position has a good fatness, and even the out-of-phase position sounds full.

The Abigail Ybarra handwound black-bobbins don’t have all that much output, so the shimmering overtone in the treble frequencies and airiness is still there.

What this goes to show is that the body, neck and pickups all come together in a great balance.

 

Got to tip my hat to Jason Smith for this one.
