本日ご紹介するのは
2013 Gibson Custom Shop Collector’s Choice #15 Greg Martin 1958 Les Paul “8-6756” (Double Dirty Lemon)。

 

このレスポール、まずルックスが好きなんですよね〜。

ダブル・ダーティー・レモン、そしてエッジにかけて見えるさりげない杢・・・いいですね。

 

ケンタッキーヘッドハンターズのギタリスト、グレッグ・マーチン氏が所有する58年製レスポールを再現しており、近年の通常の’58リイシューに比べやや細身のネック、そしてエイジングが施されたルックスとフィーリングがまたイイ。

 

ピックアップはカスタムバッカーが載っており、予想通りのタイトの低音域なのですが、2013年のカスタムバッカーは傾向として少しカリっとしすぎることがあります。

でもこの楽器は1、2弦のハイが立ちすぎることなく馴染んでる感じがあります。

ボディーが比較的軽量で生鳴りがふくよかな分中域にふくらみがあり、もしかしたらこのボディーの鳴りとのバランスがいいのかもしれません。

 

また軽量なレスポールはピッキングに対して音の立ち上がりがややゆるいため、ジャズ系のフレージングとの相性がいい印象があります。

ただこの一本は中域はありつつ、レスポンスもいいというなかなか珍しい特色を持っています。

 

ブラックフェイスのデラックス・リバーブなんかに繋げたら最高でしょうね。

2013 Gibson Custom Shop Collector’s Choice #15 Greg Martin 1958 Les Paul “8-6756” (Double Dirty Lemon)

 

I personally really love the looks of this Les Paul.

Double Dirty Lemon finish with a slightly figured top… yum.

 

Based on a ’58 Burst owned by Kentucky Headhunters guitarist Greg Martin, this one has a slimmer neck than regular ’58 reissues from Gibson Custom Shop, and the distressed finish looks and feels awesome.

 

Loaded with Custombucker pickups, it’s got a tight low end as you can expect from these pickups, but moreover, Custombuckers from 2013 are often overly crispy, but this one has a “tamed” feel, maybe because of the relatively lightweight body that has good resonance, giving it an open mid-range.

 

A lot of lightweight Les Pauls lack responsiveness to picking, and because of the ample amount of mid-range I find them suitable for jazz playing.

 

This one on the other hand has good mid-range and responsiveness, which is something you can’t easily find.

I’d love to plug this into a vintage blackface Deluxe Reverbs. I bet it’ll be killer!
