本日ご紹介するのは
2014 Gibson Custom Shop Collector’s Choice #17 1959 Les Paul “Louis” Aged (Dirty Lemon)です。

 

こちらバックチェリーのギタリスト、キース・ネルソン氏所有の’59年製バーストのレプリカです。

キースはヴィンテージギターのコレクターとしても知られており、そんな彼が所有するバーストなんだからまあ良いに決まっているでしょう。

 

もちろん当店にあるものは実機ではないですが、そんなことは抜きにしても純粋に良いレスポールです。

 

まず注目すべき点はピックアップ。

 

2014年製でありながら通常搭載されるカスタムッカーではなくあえてフロントにバーストバッカー3、リアに’57クラシックを採用しているそうです。

実際のピックアップに”Patent Applied For”シールが貼られているのみで実際のモデル名が明記されている訳ではないのですが、キャビティ内のハンダを見ても出荷時から変更された形跡はないことからギブソン社の発表通りのものが搭載されていると判断してます。

恐らく実機の出音となるべく近いものをということで選定したんでしょう。

 

いい音してます。

 

バーストバッカーは中低域がパワフルな傾向で、フロントに載せるとちょっとこもることがありますが、この楽器はなかなかタイトです。

もちろんレスポールのフロント特有の甘く豊かな倍音は健在で、ヴィンテージバーストらしさの片鱗が見えます。

リアの’57クラシックもまた素晴らしく、パワー感はさほどないものの、芳醇な空気感がありサステインの中に濃度の濃い倍音があります。

 

やはりこのピックアップを選ぶだけの理由がはっきりとあったんでしょうね。

まだ触れてはいませんでしたが、見た目も最高です。

控えめな杢目とこのいいフェイド具合のレモンバースト。かっこいい！

My pick for today is…

2014 Gibson Custom Shop Collector’s Choice #17 1959 Les Paul “Louis” Aged (Dirty Lemon).

 

Here’s a killer Les Paul that came in a few weeks ago.

This model is a replica of a ’59 Burst owned by Keith Nelson of Buckcherry.

Some of you may be aware that Keith has quite a few vintage guitars and probably knows a thing or two about them. You know you can’t go wrong if it’s Keith’s.

 

So, what we have here is a genuinely great Les Paul.

Though it was made in 2014, Gibson apparently chose not to go with the go-to Custombuckers for this one.

The official Gibson websites says the pickups are Burstbucker 3 for the neck and ’57 Classic for the bridge, and though there was no sign of the pickups being replaced, we could not get a clear indication of the pickup models just by looking at them.

However, the tone definitely sounds like those pickups, so we’re pretty sure the pickups are as announced.

 

And they sound great.

 

Burstbuckers tend to have a powerful low-midrange, and sometimes they get a little muddy in the neck position, but this thing is tight.

It’s got that sweet, rich tone with tons of vintage-y vibe that we all just can’t get enough of.

 

They ’57 Classic on the bridge position is also sounding fantastic.

It has a good amount of airiness, and though it doesn’t sound as powerful as some guitars do, there’s a dense amount of harmonics that results in a detailed sustain.

 

There is definitely a good reason why they chose these pickups in this model.

 

And I know, I hadn’t mentioned about it yet, but this thing just looks awesome. It’s a beast.

That faded Lemon Burst and the lightly figured top just gets me.

 

I bet this one won’t be here too long.
