本日ご紹介するのは

2014年製 Gibson Memphis Warren Haynes 1961 ES-335 (Cherry)です。

 

“ビッグ・レッド”が入荷しました！

ウォーレン・ヘインズはアメリカのギタリストの中でも最も忙しくしている一人なのではないでしょうか？自身が率いるガヴァメント・ミュールでの活動をしつつ、数々の再度プロジェクトやプロデュース業もこなす多彩なギタリストです。オールマン・ブラザース・バンドの一員としてディッキー・ベッツ、そして後にデレク・トラックスとともに2014年の解散（というか引退）までツインギターを組んでいたことでご存知の方も多いかもしれません。

ウォーレンは主にギブソン弾きのイメージが強く、レスポールやノンリバースのファイヤーバード、そして61年製の”ビッグ・レッド”の愛称で知られるチェリーのES-335などを使用しているのがよく見られます。ギブソンは2014年にこの”ビッグ・レッド”を500本限定で生産し、当店にあるものはそのうちの一本ということになります。335を含めギブソンを弾くときの彼の音は概ね高音域が少なく甘い音色で、フェンダーのホットロッド・デラックスに繋いでも今日ご紹介するこの”ビッグ・レッド”に同様のキャラクターを感じます。335にしてはかなり軽量な3.56kgという重量で、生鳴り自体がそもそも中域に寄っている印象です。335を弾き比べたことがある方であればお気づきかもしれませんが、硬めの鳴り方を持つ個体は高音域が強く、逆に柔らかい鳴り方を持つものはより”箱鳴り”を感じると思います。この個体に関してはどちらかというと後者に当てはまり、またこのモデルにはローミッドの倍音が豊かなバーストバッカーがチョイスされていることであの甘さ十分なウォーレン・トーンが出てくれます。

ブルースロックよろしくなオーバードライブトーンでもジャジーなクリーントーンでもその魅力を感じることができ、このモデルを実際に所有するの中にはウォーレンのことはよく知らないけど、このモデルの弾き心地と音に惹かれたという方もいらっしゃるくらいで、それだけ良い楽器だということがお分かり頂けるかと思います。

2014 Gibson Memphis Warren Haynes 1961 ES-335 (Cherry).

 

The “Big Red” is here!

Warren Haynes is one of the busiest guitarist in the United States right now, working on various projects while playing with his own band Gov’t Mule. Many of you may recognize him as the guitarist for the legendary The Allman Brothers Band, playing alongside Dickey Betts and later Derek Trucks, up until their retirement in 2014.

Warren is mainly known as a Gibson guy, switching between his Les Pauls, non-reverse Firebirds and the cherry 1961 ES-335 nicknamed “Big Red”. Gibson did a limited run of 500 of this “Big Red” back in 2014, and we are lucky to have one here today.

If you have ever heard Warren’s playing, I think you will notice he has a sweet, buttery tone when he is playing any of his Gibsons including the 335. Playing the one we have at the shop, I can definitely hear that character even if I’m playing through a regular Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. The guitar is very light for a 335 weighing approximately 7.85 lbs, so the body resonance is somewhat focused in the midrange frequencies. If you’ve played a few 335s before, you may have noticed some have a rather solid resonance that brings out the treble frequencies, and then some have a softer texture and you can really hear the hollow-body nuance. This “Big Red” would fall in the latter category, and because Warren chose Burstbucker pickups which have a rich low-midrange character, you’ll really hear that sweet Warren tone.

You can go from blues-rocker overdrive to jazzy clean with this one, and a lot of times players that own this model are not always familiar with Warren Haynes, but they like the playability and tone. You can tell it’s a great instrument.
