本日ご紹介するのは

2015年製 Gibson Custom Shop Historic Select 1958 Les Paul Vintage Gloss Hand Selected (Green Lemon)です。

夏季休暇前最後の投稿になります。

このレスポールは他とはちょっと違います。フレイムメイプルトップの雰囲気はいいし、グリーンレモンフィニッシュもカッコいい。が、しかしポイントはそこではありません。重量です。

このギター、なんとレスポールでありながら3.58kgしかなく、ぼくが今まで見てきたなかでもここまで軽いものはほとんどありません。手に取ると、今持っているものが本当にレスポールなのかと疑ってしまうくらいです。ストラトとあんまり変わらないじゃないですか。もちろんウェイトリリーフもされておりません。トゥルーヒストリックスペックのレスポールのに穴は開けませんよね…

ここまで軽いとさすがにパワフルという感じではありませんが、温かみや滑らかな音の立ち上がり、そして空気感はすごいの一言です。アタックに続いて膨らんでいく倍音は極上で、3弦を一音上にベンドしたまま1小節放っておくだけで体感できるくらいです。特にこのリアの音にはやられちゃいました。キンキンすることなく叫び、中域の倍音がドッと流れ出てくるようなイメージです。カスタムバッカーと軽量なレスポールの組み合わせはやはり素晴らしい組み合わせです。

こんな音のするレスポールはなかなかないですよ。

My pick for today is…

2015 Gibson Custom Shop Historic Select 1958 Les Paul Vintage Gloss Hand Selected (Green Lemon).

 

This here Les Paul is something else. Yes it’s got a nice flame and the Green Lemon finish looks killer, but much more than that. It’s the weight.

This one only weighs 7.9 lbs which is one of the lightest I’ve ever come across. Once you pick this one up, it’s just hard to believe that what you got in your hands is actually a Les Paul. I mean that’s about how much a Strat would weigh, people. And no, it has not been weight-relieved. A Historic Select is pretty much a True Historic with selected material and they wouldn’t put holes in one of these.

A Les Paul this light wouldn’t be the most powerful sounding guitar, but the warmth, smoothness and airiness is simply amazing. The way the harmonics bloom and spread following the attack is marvelous, and just bending the 3rd string up a whole step and holding it there for a full bar is enough to enjoy this. The bridge pickup is what got me the most. It screams without being harsh, and the dense midrange juice pours out. Once again I’m reminded how great Custombuckers and lightweight bodies work together. The perfect medium.

There aren’t many Les Pauls that would sound like this one.
