本日ご紹介するのは

2015年製 Gibson Custom Shop Historic Select 1959 Les Paul Vintage Gloss Hand Selected (New Orange Sunset Fade)です。

 

このルックス、ぼくはなかなか好きですね。

 

このトップのやや控えめともいえる杢目の主張しすぎない絶妙な存在感がいいんです。

 

このオレンジがかった色味もすごくマッチしているのではないでしょうか。

もっと鮮やかなチェリーサンバーストだと杢目に少々物足りなさを感じていたかもしれません。分からないですけど、ぼくはありのままのこの姿が好きです。

これが今後時間が経つにつれてどんな色味に変化していくかも楽しみになりますね。育て甲斐があります。

 

ところでこの”ハンドセレクト”とは日本の楽器店のバイヤーがギブソンの工場にて直接材を選びオーダーしたモデルであることを示します。

ハンドセレクト品は杢目がかなり強く出ているものが傾向としては多いのですが、あえてこの雰囲気の杢目を選びこのカラーで仕上げたあたりが素敵。

 

そんな素敵なギターを数ある中から（本当にたくさんあるんですよ）毎度選んでこのブログで紹介する訳ですから、そりゃあ音だって良くないと話になりません。

がっかりはさせませんよ。

 

なかなか弾くのを止められませんでした。

3.85kgとレスポールの中では丁度スウィートスポットだと感じる方も多い重量で、軽めの個体にある膨らみのある中域と重めの個体にあるバイト感の強くパチンとくるアタックのバランスが良いです。

もっと軽い個体やもっと重い個体だと当然どちらかのキャラクターが色濃く出てきます。もちろんそれが悪いことでは全くなく、プレイヤーさんご自身がどういったものを求めているか次第で印象は180度変わってきます。

 

この個体はどちらの要素も少しづつ兼ね揃えており、その分弾き方次第様々な表情を引き出す事ができるのがストロングポイントであることは間違いありません。

 

ネックシェイプもエッジが少し削ぎ落されたトゥルーヒストリックならではの馴染みのいい握り心地で弾くのを止めたくないと感じてしまうくらいでした。

My pick for today is…

2015 Gibson Custom Shop Historic Select 1959 Les Paul Vintage Gloss Hand Selected (New Orange Sunset Fade).

 

I’m sure some of you will love the look of this guy. I know I do.

 

The grain on this maple top is very appealing to me.

It’s definitely there, but it doesn’t show up too much.

 

The orange-ish tone of the finish is just right for the top. If it was a brighter Cherry Sunburst, you might have wanted the grain to show a little more. Who knows? I’m good this way, thanks.

It would be very entertaining to see how the finish would fade over time too.

 

Hand Selected models are ordered with the material that is “hand-selected” by buyers of Japanese instrument stores at the Gibson factory.

I lot of Hand Selected Les Pauls tend to have a more vivid flame top, so I appreciate the fact that they actually chose this particular top and had it painted in this particular finish.

 

Because I’m picking out guitars to share with you out of more than a handful, they ought to sound good.

I’m not going to let you down.

 

This one was really fun to play.

Weighing just under 8.5 lbs, you could say this one’s in the sweet spot for Les Pauls.

 

It’s got a very nice balance of bloomy midrange usually found in light Les Pauls and biting attack usually found in heavy Les Paul.

A Les Paul that is lighter or heavier than this weight range will only have either of this character, which of course is not a bad thing since different players will have different demands in their instruments.

 

With that said, this one feels good.

By controlling your picking nuance you can pull out a wide variety of expressions. You could go sweet, or you can go harsh.

 

The neck feels great in the hands with the slightly rolled-in edges of True Historic profile. It was hard for me to put down this guitar even though I had other stuff to do (I’m at work, you know).

 

It sure hit home to me.

 

Speaking of home, way to go Houston Astros on the World Series victory.
