本日ご紹介するのは

2015年製 Gibson Custom Shop True Historic 1959 Les Paul Vintage Gloss (Vintage Dark Burst)です。

 

しばらくレスポールをやっていなかったけど、待っている方も多いはず…!

いいのがありますよ。

 

このトゥルーヒストリック’59レスポールは今後も記憶に残るであろう一本です。トップの杢目は極上だし、このダークバーストフィニッシュがそれを際立たせています。色味はちょうどタバコバーストとバーボンバーストの中間くらい。とても素敵なルックスしてます。

出音もパワフルでバンドに入ってもよく抜けてくれそうです。弦に対して深めにピッキングしたときは正直驚きました。押し出しとバイト感が強力で、倍音特性もタイトにまとまっています。こういうキャラクターなのでどうしても膨らみのある空気感はさほど得られませんが、これだけパンチがあると上手くアンプをプッシュしてくれます。特に50年代のツイード系のフェンダーアンプとの相性がめちゃくちゃ良さそうです。ボディが弦振動に対してかなり踏ん張ってくれるので中域に気持ちのいい粘りがあります。すごくエネルギーを感じます。

これだけ輪郭もはっきりしている音なので、リアはかなりエッジが立ちます。でもトーンさえ調整すればトレブルのニュアンスとフロントとのバランスをいい塩梅に持っていくことができ、ローミッド帯域の倍音が姿を現します。この音がまたやみつきになります。いやー最高です。

この楽器のおいて最も魅力的だと感じたのはフロントでした。前述したバイトであったりタイトさがここに集約されています。低音域が嫌にモタつくことはなく、力強い張りのある太さが際立ちます。ハイミッド帯域にピークがある感じは古いバーストを彷彿させ、とにかく弾いていて楽しい音です。少しコンプレッションとサグがあるアンプに繋ぐとよりこの楽器の良さが発揮されると思います。

 

本当に素晴らしい楽器でなかなか弾くのをやめられませんでした。

2015 Gibson Custom Shop True Historic 1959 Les Paul Vintage Gloss (Vintage Dark Burst)

 

It’s been a little while since I did a Burst, and I know you’re all craving for one.

We have a good one.

 

This True Historic R9 is definitely one I will remember. The figure of the maple top is absolutely stunning, and the Dark Burst really makes everything stand out. The color is kind of in between a Tobacco Burst and Bourbon Burst. This is a beauty right here. Very, very nice.

It’s got a pretty powerful tone, a tone that would easily cut through in a band situation. The moment I dug into the strings, I just went “UHH-WEE this thing barks!”. There is so much punch and bite in this one and harmonics are very focused and tight. I do have to say it’s not the most airy tone, but with this punch, it’ll push the amp to break up nicely, and the wooly texture will definitely go together nicely with 50’s Fender Tweed amps. The body holds down the string vibration well and the notes really hang in there. A lot of energy dwells in this thing.

Because of the clarity that this guitar has, the bridge position has a lot of point in the sound. You can always roll away the treble a little bit to dial in the tone you’re looking for and to balance things out with the neck pickup. When that’s done, you’re going to be able to play this thing for days. By taking away a little harshness, you find out there’s a lot of undertone. I love this thing.

The neck pickup is what stands out in this guitar. I mean it’s incredible. The bite, the tightness, they all come together here. No muddiness, just a solid fat growl. There’s a unique “hump” in the upper midrange that is similar to what you find in the old vintage Bursts and it feels great. I would definitely recommend plugging into an amp that has a little bit of compression and sag as you can really hear that bloom.

 

I can’t say enough good things about this guitar. It’s a real rock machine.
