本日ご紹介するのは

2017年製 Fender Custom Shop Limited Edition ’59 Stratocaster Heavy Relic (Aged Olympic White)です。

 

こちらは最近入荷したものなのですが、どんなものなのか気になる方も多いはず。

 

ネックの色が明らかに濃いですよね。

その正体は高熱乾燥処理を施したローステッドメイプルです。

木材に含まれる水分を飛ばすことで出音の輪郭がよりはっきりします。

 

今年のNAMMショーで発表されたモデルで、アノダイズドピックガードを付けてみたりTexas Specialピックアップを載せたりしています。

この仕様から想像できるのは、より煌びやかな高音域を狙っていたのではないかという点。

もし本当にそうであったら彼らの狙いは的中しています。

 

ぼくのこの楽器に対する印象はとにかく実用的であるということ。

それぞれの仕様にしっかりとした意味を感じます。

 

全体的にブライトなのは先ほど申し上げた通りなのですが、ジャンボフレットを採用することでアタックのニュアンスが少し丸くなりサステインの伸び方がスムーズになります。

一見小さな差ではありますが、バンドの中に入るとこういうところが全体のサウンドに影響するのも事実。

 

すっごく音が太い訳でも低音域がドーンと出る訳でもない。

でもその分中域に温かい空気感があり、高音域の豊かな倍音と合わさって特にボーカルの後ろなんかで弾くにはすごく良いトーンだと思います。

My pick for today is…

2017 Fender Custom Shop Limited Edition ’59 Stratocaster Heavy Relic (Aged Olympic White).

 

This one came in pretty recently, and I had to let you all know about it.

 

What’s obviously unusual is the color of the neck.

It uses torrefied (roasted) maple, and the dried out wood gives a clearer tone.

 

Introduced at this year’s NAMM Show as a limited model, it sports an anodized pickguard and Texas Special pickups.

With this spec, I assume there was an intention to bring out a sparkly tone, and they sure did right.

 

My first impression is that this guitar is a very usable guitar.

The thought they put into it all takes shape in the form of practicality.

 

Though the overall tone is fairly bright, the jumbo frets round out the attack and smoothes out the sustain. A slight but effective difference especially when you’re playing in a band.

 

One other thing that makes this guitar easy to get along with a band is its tone.

It’s not the fattest sounding Strat, and it doesn’t have a huge low-end like some Strats do.

There is a very nice airiness and shimmering overtone in the treble frequencies. Definitely a great instrument for playing rhythm behind vocals.
