本日はいつもとちょっぴり方向を変えましてこんな企画を….じゃんっ!

 

ケンタウルス弾き比べ隊!!

 

当店ただいまエフェクター買取強化中でございまして、おかげさまで少しずつペダルの在庫も増えてまいりました。

そんなわけでエフェクター大好きスタッフYが主観でレビューさせていただこうと思います。

 

本日ご紹介する２台はこちら!

Klon Centaur Silver/Long Tail 1st Era & Klon Centaur No Picture Gold

 

なんと2台で総額¥464,400!!!

ケンタウルスと言ってもやはり歴史が長く、ビル・フィネガン氏がKlonを設立してからCentaurの生産が終了するまで様々なバージョンが作られました。

1994年に4年間の歳月をかけ開発され…工場が火事にあってシルクスクリーンがなくなってしまったり…と思ったらKTRが発売したり…

そんなこんなありながら現在では当時の売価を大幅に上回るプレミアム価格で取引されております。

 

ではそんな長い長い前置きはさておき比べてみました!

 

まずはFAX Only、ロングテールのシルバーボックス…最初期仕様のケンタウルス。

見た目から存在感がありますね…オーラが違います。

 

個人的にはシルバーボックスの方がピクチャーが濃く出て映える気がしております…いかがでしょう?

 

音は…まろやかですね。

Trebleツマミが真ん中より上が個人的には美味しいセッティングだと思っているのですが、がっつりあげてもハイだけではなく倍音が上がっていく印象があり耳に痛い印象が少ない個体でした。

歪み量もヴォリュームも比較的控えめな個体なのですが、アンプのボリュームを結構上げて使うと本領発揮でヴィンテージライクかつ倍音感のある音をアウトプットしてくれました。

 

さてさてお次ぎは絵無しのゴールドボックス。

 

Jeff Beckをはじめ、ノーピクチャーを使用しているアーティストは多いですね。

こちらの個体はかなり元気な音がする印象です。

 

歪み量、ヴォリューム共にシルバーボックスの個体より大きく感じます。

比較的アンプやシチュエーションを選ばずに使いやすい個体では無いでしょうか。

 

2台並べて弾いてみると(もちろんバッファードなので一台ずつ差し替えて比較しました)個体差がかなりあります。

Hello friends!

 

I’m going to do something a little different today.

We basically talk guitars all day long, but hey, when electric guitar players shape their tone, effect pedals become a huge factor.

 

Since this is the first time I’m trying this, I’m going to go big and bring out arguably the most sought after overdrive pedal there is today: Klon Centaur.

Not only that, I’m going to compare the two Klon Centaurs we currently have in stock:

 

• Klon Centaur Silver/Long Tail 1st Era
• Klon Centaur No Picture Gold

 

That’s approximately $4,200 worth of tone.

 

Many variations of Centaurs were produced over the years since Bill Finnegan founded Klon.

After 4 years of development, the Centaur debuted in 1994, and then the factory burned down and all the silkscreen were lost, but then KTR started selling them… it’s a long story.

 

After all these years, especially after its discontinuation, the price of these Centaurs have skyrocketed.

 

So, enough with the history.

I’ll start with the FAX-only, long-tail silver box version, which is one of the earliest.

 

You can just feel the mojo from its look.

The picture can be seen more clearly and boldly on silver boxes, what do you think?

 

The tone is mild.

I would prefer the treble knob set just past noon, but even if you crank it high you get more harmonics along with the treble so it doesn’t get too harsh.

Not a lot of drive or volume in this one, but a lot of juice comes out when you use it with the amp cranked.

There’s a lot of vintage vibe and the tone is drenched in harmonics.

 

Now we move on to the Non-picture Gold Box.

We see many artists using a Non-picture, and this one has a rather bright and energetic sound.

 

There is more drive and volume than the Silver Box, and will get along well regardless of the amp character or situation.

 

When you A/B the two (I did compare them one by one since they have a buffered circuit), each one has a pretty distinct character.

 

Though Klon Centaurs are said to be the holy grail of overdrive pedals, be sure to really look for the one that makes YOU happy.
